How long does it take to decompress entire Wikipedia???

Does it take a week? 1 day?

I"ve attempted it before because i dodnwloaded the 8, 7z files from wikipedia and i let it go for about 2 hours and it still was on articles strating with letter A. so i stopped it cause i ddn't have time.

I'm decompressing my files to an external HD 40GB drive. I wonder if that's enough. According to a site i saw.. the entire decompress is 10GB.. but then other people said it's 200GB. what the?

Instead of downloading the entire database, why dont you try Webaroo? It offers downloadable packs of wikipedia articles, by theme:

If you really want the entire database, you can download the HTML static version at http://static.wikipedia.org/wikipedia/en/index.html, using Surf Online or Offline Explorer.



If you download the articles in wikitext (as you were trying to do), you'd have to have a local installation of mediawiki running to be able to browse them. See the following link on that:

It is not easy to download such a big sight but it is easier to check it through the net because it is changeable and every single day there is a new topic, but there is a program called off line explorer to extract the web sights it is nice and fast depends on your line. And I dont think it is 200 GB

Ehm..

To open compressed files (zip rar jar iso 7z cab uue gz....) you have to use WinRar. With WinRar you can easily decompress files and folders.

I doubt its 200gb.



Just let it decompress, turn off the monitor, go to sleep, and it'll be done the next day.
