Question:
A Software that lets you create your own personal wiki?
2009-05-18 17:14:12 UTC
I need a software that's free, downloadable, and edits like wikipedia (and looks like it too, but i don't really care about that part.)

The main reason I need it is because I'm writing a concordance for a really complicated novel i plan to write (eventually) and this would help a TON because I would be able to create different pages for different characters/locations/etc.

I want to be able to access it from my desktop and have it to where no one can access it but me (password protected is almost a MUST!)

I use a DELL laptop, if that matters.

Thanks a ton!!!

If you want to edit it like Wikipedia, then use MediaWiki.

Installation depends on what OS you are using (which should not a server OS if you want it to be accessed by nobody else).

Keep in mind, once you want to publish your novel, it's going to be a pain in the puh-toot to get it OUT of the wiki markup format, and INTO a format suitable for the publisher.

That being said, if you're hell-bent on this idea of authoring a novel with a wiki, all alone, then I suggest:

This kind of software is readily available for free.
