Question:
Should I work for Wikimedia?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows someone else who works at Wikimedia? When I go home after work, I usually sit in front of the computer, eat half a pie of pizza, and edit Wikipedia entries. I used to have a wife, but she left me, so I have more time to concentrate on my work. Now I sit in front of my computer all day, alone, editing entries on cephalopods. I've noticed that people do not like me at my *real* job, but I think it's because my coworkers are jealous of my intellectual superiority.

If I could, I would love to work for Jimmy Wales at Wikimedia. In fact, I've sent my resume there at least 17 times, but I still haven't heard back. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you've been editing Wikipedia for a while and have the mental superiority you claim, you will have realized that Wikimedia is not a large company. They are a very small non-profit organization. As such, there are rarely in a position to hire anybody. In fact, you could have just typed Wikimedia into the search box on Wikipedia and seen that they have a whopping total of 19 employees. I don't see any rush to make it 20.

The Wikimedia Foundation is actually extremely small. Wikipedia and associated projects are run almost entirely by volunteers; this works because of their policy that anyone can edit their projects. Due to the literally millions of volunteers who work on their projects such as Wikipedia for free, they rarely need to hire anyone. The Wikimedia Foundation -- according to their website (http://wikimediafoundation.org/ ) -- has 15 employees and is not currently hiring.

However, if you want to help them out, just create an account at one of their projects and start contributing! They can always use more volunteer editors.

Definitely Wiki. Fox News can say whatever they want. In fact, their conservative viewership demands news with a conservative spin on it. Wikipedia is certainly not perfect, and it's always a good idea to check up on the accuracy of a Wikipedia entry, but this is simple because Wikipedia cites its sources at the bottom of the page. If you don't trust the entry, just read the source information yourself. With Fox News you often get opinion and misinformation presented as fact with no opportunity to check the source of the info.
